The History of London Bridge

London Bridge today is not the same London Bridge that crossed the Thames when it was first built. Peter, a priest and chaplain of St. Mary's of Colechurch, began the foundation of the original bridge in 1176 to replace a wooden bridge (expensive to maintain and repeatedly burned down) that had first been built by the Romans. The original London Bridge consisted of nineteen pointed arches, each with a span averaging 7 meters, and built on 6-metre-wide piers. A twentieth opening in the bridge was spanned by a wooden drawbridge. With the building of this bridge, a peculiar effect was discovered - the tide roared through the narrow arches every day with great force; in fact, it was so dramatically affected that it created temporary 5-foot-high cataracts every day as it went in and out.. A new sport based on this nifty effect was "shooting the bridge" - slipping through the arches in a small boat when the tide was turning.
Peter of Colechurch died in 1205, and his work was completed by three other London citizens by 1209. The bridge, already rather narrow for its function, became even narrower (about 4 metres wide) when shops and homes were built along both sides of the roadway right on the bridge itself; by 1358, 138 places of business were recorded in the tax rolls. And, like most older London buildings, the shops were built so that the upper floors stretched over the roadway - at last, the bridge became more like a long tunnel lined with shops, through which travelers and other people flowed. One can only imagine the smell, with the sheltered road, no real drainage, and lots of horses and people! The houses were built so that they overhung the water as well as the roadway, and were anchored by tying them together across the street with arches of strong timber. In 1580, water mills added to the general chaos of the bridge.
The bridge was not only a home and place of business, it was a defensible structure. More than once, its drawbridge was raised and men fought under its strong tower to repulse invaders or rebels, putting the wooden houses built on the bridge at some risk. Until after the Scottish Restoration, the bridge was often decorated by the heads, quarters, or body parts of the executed who were to be put on display afterward. As late as the year 1598, a German traveller counted over thirty heads.
But having so much on the bridge itself became dangerous indeed to inhabitants and travellers. Only three years after it was first completed, a huge fire destroyed its buildings, killing perhaps 3000 people when it jumped from one end of the bridge to the other, trapping firefighting crowds between the flames. The houses were quickly rebuilt - and in 1282 five of the bridge arches collapsed with the weight of winter ice. But they too were rebuilt along with their requisite buildings, and the bridge continued as London's sole crossing of the Thames until 1750, when Westminster Bridge opened.
At about this time, the designer of Westminster Bridge was hired to repair and renovate London Bridge. Redesign and repair was deemed necessary by the narrowness of the road, the huge supports of the bridge (which took up about a quarter of the river's width), and by the dangerous sport of shooting the bridge and other health hazards posed by the bridge. By 1762 the character of the bridge was changed: all the houses were gone, the roadway was 14 metres wide, and the two central arches replaced by one great arch, allowing much easier passage for larger boats.
Alas, this central arch proved difficult to maintain, and in the early 1800s a second bridge was built a few meters away. The original London Bridge was demolished by 1832. The new bridge was called Rennie's Bridge. Designed by George Rennie and constructed by John Rennie, it was composed of only five arches, with the central span reaching 46 metres. Rennie's London Bridge had a very odd ending. It lasted less than 140 years. Between 1968 and 1971, it was dismantled and shipped across the Atlantic to the United States, where it was rebuilt in Lake Havasu City, where it still stands, crossing Lake Havasu, 255 kilometres south of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. The Big Three Economic Indicators

Traders are always trying to understand the factors that cause the market to rise and fall. The truth is that there are a multitude of factors, and millions of investors make decisions that impact the market every day. Corporate earnings and news, political news, and general market sentiment can all move the market. But economic factors have the most influence on long-term market performance. There is a lot of economic data available on the US economy, and almost every day some economic report or another is being released. When reading these releases I always try to assess the importance of each item and how it fits into the current economic situation. For the most important reports, especially those that may impact an industry that contains companies you are trading, it is often better to not rely solely on the analysis offered by financial journalists but to look at and try to understand the original sources. Of all the economic indicators, the three most significant for the overall stock market are inflation, gross domestic product (GDP), and labor market data. I always try to keep in mind where these three are in relation to the current stage of the economic cycle. That gives me a framework to work with that allows me to estimate how any individual piece of economic data may affect these three indicators, and to then project its probable effect on the stock market as a whole. INFLATION Inflation is a significant indicator for securities markets because it determines how much of the real value of an investment is being lost, and the rate of return you need to compensate for that erosion. For example, if inflation is at 3% this year, and your investment also increases by 3%, in real terms you have just managed to stay even. And to take on market risk, you should receive a “risk premium” above and beyond the inflation rate. So investors who buy stocks do so expecting they will get a return equal to (or better than) that risk premium adjusted by the inflation rate. So a higher rate of inflation means you should get a higher return for investments in the equity markets. But the effect inflation has on the stock market is more complicated than that. The main impact of inflation on stock prices actually comes from the effect it has on a company’s earnings. Low inflation keeps a company’s costs down, and increases profits. So all other things being equal, (a favorite phrase of all economists), low inflation is better for the market than high inflation. There are many causes of inflation. From a supply-demand standpoint, it can be due to increased demand for a particular product, from an increase in a company’s cost of supplies, or from limited supplies (like OPEC members restricting oil supplies), or even just due to fear that supplies might be limited at some point in the future. But the single most important determinant of inflation is the output gap, which is the balance between supply and demand in the economy. The output gap measures the difference between the economy’s potential, where all capital and labor resources are in use, and the actual level of output. When actual output is below its potential, inflation should be low because excess workers and unused plant and equipment are available. The actual level of output is easy to get, and is measured by GDP. But potential output is harder to calculate and requires estimates to determine its value. So while the output gap is important to always keep in mind when interpreting economic data, its exact amount is never known. For that reason it is not a realistic indicator for investors to use. That is why a proxy is needed, so that you have a single number to estimate it. In the US it is the Consumer Price Index (CPI) that is the most widely followed measure of inflation. The Labor Department issues a CPI figure every month, measuring the increase in the price of a given "basket" of goods and services purchased by the average consumer. That basket supposedly includes a number of items commonly purchased by all or most consumers, such as food, housing, clothes, transportation, medical care, and entertainment. The total value of that basket is then compared to the same basket of goods a year later. The percentage increase in the price for these goods in one year is the inflation rate or, if the value drops as happened in Japan over much of the past decade, the deflation rate. That gives you a measured percentage such as 3%, which means that the basic necessities of life cost 3% more today than they did last year. There are of course some problems with this measure. For one thing, the products rarely remain exactly the same, and it can be difficult to strip out how much of an increase is due to inflation, and how much is due to other factors such as improvements in quality. Also, the composition of what people buy changes over time. In fact, many of the goods now included were not even invented 20 or 30 years ago. Still remains the single best proxy available and, at least in the short- to medium-term, is the number that investors focus on when making their decisions. GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) While GDP is an important component in inflation, it is also important as an economic indicator in its own right. When compared to the previous year’s reading, it tells you how fast the economy is growing (or contracting). GDP is the dollar value of all goods and services produced by a given country during a certain period. It is measured by either adding all of the income earned in an economy, or by all the spending in an economy. Both measures should be roughly equal. Gross domestic income includes wages and salaries, corporate profits, interest collected by lenders, and taxes collected by governments. GDP domestic expenditures includes consumer spending, housing investment, government spending, business spending (investment in factories, equipment, and inventory), as well as foreign spending on our exports minus our spending on their imports. With so many individual components affecting GDP (and through the output gap, inflation) you can see how easy it is for the number of economic reports to mushroom. GDP affects the stock market through its effect on inflation, as well as through its use as a key indicator of economic activity and future economic prospects by investors. Any significant change in the GDP, either up or down, can have a big effect on investing sentiment. If investors believe the economy is improving (and corporate earnings along with it) they are likely to be willing to pay more for any given stock. If there is a decline in GDP (or investors expect a decline) they would only be willing to buy a given stock for less, leading to a decline in the stock market. On top of this effect, there is also an economic theory that suggests the stock market itself exerts a reverse effect on economic activity, usually called the “wealth effect”. This theory says that a fall in the stock market makes an individual’s personal wealth (or perceived wealth) fall. They consequently stop spending as much. Since consumer spending represents around two-thirds of GDP, a small change in consumption exerts a significant effect on GDP. This means that as the stock market falls, it causes GDP t9 fall even further, which further intensifies the downward pressure on the stock market. THE LABOR MARKET The last major factor influencing the economy is the labor market. The key indicators most investors focus on here are total employment and the unemployment rate. US citizens who are already working represent the employed, while those who are actively looking for work, but haven’t found it yet, are the unemployed. The unemployment rate does not include people without jobs who are not looking for jobs, such as students, retirees, or people who are discouraged and have simply given up trying to find a job. The Employment Report is published monthly by the US Department of Labor, and provides both the employment and unemployment numbers. There is always some unemployment. As the allocation of resources change in the economy, based on what people are buying, some companies go out of business while others that produce the things that are in demand will be expanding. This allows a flow of labor from losing to winning industries but it is not an instantaneous process. Others may leave their jobs by choice. That means there is always some amount of unemployment built into the economic structure, which is often termed the “natural” level of unemployment. The natural level of unemployment is the point where any drop below that figure creates conditions that will drive up inflation (as companies bid up wages to attract the scarce workers). There is always some disagreement as to what the “natural” level of unemployment is for the US economy. For one thing, it changes over time as the nature of the economy changes. For most of the 1980’s, it was often estimated at about 6%, although most economists now feel it is probably around 5%, or even the high 4’s. What might cause this kind of change? A paper a couple years ago from the Brookings Institute cited some factors that they estimated have reduced the natural rate by about 1%. Accounting for about 0.4% of that is the aging of the population; older people tend to be more fully employed. The growth of temporary staffing firms that rapidly match job-seekers with employers could account for 0.2-0.4%. Finally, the doubling of the prison population probably accounts for about 0.2% of the reduction, by removing from the labor force people who are less likely to be employed. CONCLUSION: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER There are many components that are used to calculate each of the major economic indicators, and rarely all point in the same direction. To make it even more complicated, each of these indicators are closely linked with one another. That is what makes it difficult to interpret what impact any individual economic report is likely to have on the stock market. To make things even more difficult, whether a certain reading is good or bad can also depend on what part of the economic cycle the economy is currently at. There are many institutions and safeguards within an economy that are designed to mitigate or increase any of these effects that you also need to take into account. Their probable reaction to news and events must be factored into any predictions for the future behavior of the economy. Monetary policy and fiscal policy are the two primary ways that the government influences the economy. Following the actions of the Federal Reserve, analyzing the comments made by its members (particularly the Chairman), and trying to predict what their future moves will be keep many economists employed. And actions taken by the Federal Open Market Committee often do move the stock market. The economic evidence right now seems to indicate that the current output gap is still large enough to allow for additional expansion without increasing the rate of inflation. Therefore reports showing an increase in GDP, or unemployment decreasing, are good news and the market should go up. Any report that shows inflation is higher than expected is bad, because it may indicate that we are overestimating the size of the output gap, and that should cause the stock market to drop. But in a later stage of the economic cycle, when the output gap is smaller or non-existent, those same news items could have the opposite effect on the stock market. Let’s work through one last example and explain the chain of reasoning that can lead to what may seem, on the surface, a counterintuitive result. Consider how a report that unemployment is low might be bad for the stock market. When labor market data shows that the unemployment rate is low, the stock market is usually expected to go up. Since more people are employed, consumer spending will increase, which leads to an increase in GDP. But as mentioned earlier, if the output gap is small or nonexistent an increase in GDP means the output gap will decrease even more which means the economy stands a greater risk of inflation. And inflation is bad for the stock market so it goes down on what would normally be considered good news. Inflation, GDP, and employment data all exert a significant influence on the stock market. All three are closely interrelated and a change in any single factor can have a significant trickle-down effect. And since interpretation is as much an art as science, it can also be helpful to try and look at the original source reports on occasion, if only to see what the headlines, business articles, and pundits may be leaving out.

Using simple procedures, such as putting special coverings on mattresses and pillows and rigorously washing the rest of the bedding, can help you score points in the war against these Star Wars alien-like creatures, says Vanlaar, who is an allergen research scientist at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. The study appeared in a recent issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, with funding from the Asthma Foundation of New South Wales.
In the trial, researchers tested 14 beds in seven households. In half the beds -- occupied by children with allergy symptoms -- they washed all bed coverings with Acaril, a mite killer containing 30% benzyl benzoate as the active ingredient. They also vacuumed the bedding and floors, and covered mattresses and pillows with special coverings. The benzyl benzoate wash was repeated every two months during the trial and again four months later.
In the other seven beds -- which were occupied by the allergic children's siblings -- the researchers did nothing special. They found that there was a substantial reduction in the amount of allergen caused by dust mites in the study children's beds compared to the other children's beds.
There have been several other studies looking at ways of controlling mites and their allergens in the home. Some methods, such as the use of benzyl benzoate powders, have been very limited in their effectiveness.
"Studies targeting allergens in beds -- such as our own study -- have had variable levels of success depending on the [method] used, or the studies took place in climates unfavorable for dust mite survival, such as in northern Europe," says Vanlaar. He adds that in this test, they opted for washing the upper bed coverings rather than encasing them because when the upper covering is encased, the bed can become somewhat hot and uncomfortable.
Michael Ruff, MD, spokesman for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, agrees with the Australian findings. "This study proves that even allergy and asthma sufferers living in areas with high humidity can benefit from these steps." Ruff says washing bedding in extremely hot water once a week and encasing pillows and mattresses in allergen-resistant covers are the easiest and most effective ways to reduce allergen levels in the home.
Vanlaar says the next step is to test whether this method of allergen control in bedding is enough to reduce allergy symptoms in individuals with current symptoms of asthma, and to help prevent allergies and subsequent asthma in high-risk infants.
"We are already investigating the second item by conducting a large ... trial -- the Childhood Asthma Prevention Study -- in which we are treating the cots of approximately 300 babies who are in a high-risk group for asthma, based on a family history of asthma," by washing and encasing the bedding like they did in the current study. To start your own grassroots campaign against the little critters, the American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that you follow these 10 steps for defeating dust mites in the home:
Start in the bedroom:
* Since most dust mites live in mattresses, put an airtight plastic or polyurethane cover on every mattress.
* Wash sheets and blankets in very hot water every week.
* Wash bed pillows every week or put a plastic cover on them. (The pillowcase goes over the plastic cover.)
* If possible, bedrooms should have a hardwood, tile, or linoleum floor. These surfaces are easier to keep clean than carpet.
* If you have to have carpet, try not to place the carpet on concrete. The warm space between a rug and concrete is a good place for mites to live.
* For carpeting, spray the rug with a solution of 3% tannic acid every two months to kill the dust mites. Ask your doctor how to use this solution, and whether it is right for your family.
In the rest of the house:
* Vacuum all carpets and upholstery every week. Vacuums with high-efficiency filters pick up more dust mites, but even standard vacuums work well.
* Furniture that has a polyurethane cover over its padding helps. Plastic or wooden furniture that doesn't have much padding can also help keep down the number of dust mites in the home.
* Because dust mites love warm, humid places, running your air conditioner and keeping the humidity low make a difference.
* Don't bother with special air filters -- they won't help children with asthma or allergies.

4.Match your belt with your shoes. Frankly, black shoes and a brown belt mix like Jesse Jackson at a KKK rally. Once you decide on one or the other, stick to it like a tongue to a flagpole on a cool winter morning. That may be well and good if you like pain or paramedics, but I�d like to hope you follow directions. Final thought here- shoes make the man, and will get you the woman. Have you ever seen how many pairs of shoes a woman owns? Take a hint and toss your discount store digs for a quality pair that will last you longer than a trip to the parking lot.
5.Clean your apartment. How you present your personal space speaks volumes about who you are. Cleaning is easy to do, and easy not to do. If you find out you are entertaining guests (throwing a barbeque or frat party), take a few minutes or even hours to straighten the place up. I�m not saying you should hire a housekeeper, but simple things like making the bed, getting your eight week old dishes out of the sink, and detoxifying the toilet are all amazing ideas.
6.Go easy on the super scents. Smell is the most powerful component of memory, and how you choose to represent your primal aroma is paramount to getting you and your new image remembered. You don�t need to go purchase the latest designer fragrance, but spread what you have around to the right areas. Apply mainly to your �hot zones�, vis a' vie the places you normally sweat. Oh- If you really want to leave a lasting impression, dab some behind your ears, where you are most likely to be scented in close conversation. Remember, splash, don�t bathe.
7.Grab a bucket and wash your car. Ferrari, Mercedes, Hyundai� Your ride is just an extension of your personality. Attracive members of the opposite sex aren�t expecting all of you to be playboys with amazing cars, but they do expect you to at least keep things clean. For the lazy, before a date or evening on the town, roll into the carwash. You never know what �companion� you might pick up, or who you could end up driving home.
8.Enjoy the Sound of Music. Some people claim that the type of music you listen to has some deep psychological meaning. Personally, I think music serves as the soundtrack for our lives, and is paramount in building a comfortable atmosphere and complete and cultured image. In your car, stick to Top 40, unless you are on your way to a Tim McGraw country freedom festival. Also, make music a part of your image by hanging out at places that indulge your taste in tunes. Jazz clubs, salsa dancing, and reagae night are all good choices if you are into that sort of thing. When I plan an evening of booty shaking, I like being the only white guy on the dance floor during hip-hop night.
9.Lube Up, but not in a sexual way. No one likes the image of a starving and crusty desert dweller, so get yourself some lotion and chapstick. Carmex is a great choice for the discerning gentlemen, as opposed to stealing your woman�s watermelon lip gloss. Also, everyone ought to use an unscented lotion for the hands and feet, and even men should use a daily facial lotion. Besides not getting skin cancer, it will balance out the natural oils in your face, and keep that �just boned glow� look year round.
10.Flattering Fingernails. This one comes to you direct from Dan�s Mom. While you don�t need the full on manicure with French tips, keeping your digits neatly groomed and free from grime is essential. HOW MUCH ARE YOU?

You have probably repeatedly heard, "Be all you can be!" How much is that? Do you have any idea? Do you have any idea of how much you want it to be?
Platitudes are great. We throw them out and we think we have said something of great and profound importance. You might think that you have just divulged your heartfelt philosophy. You likely have, however, without pinning down their meaning for you and clarifying the actions you must take, they simply assuage your conscience. Ooooh! That might be hard to hear!
Let's start with my favorite book, the dictionary. It says a platitude is 'the quality or state of being dull or insipid', and, 'a banal, trite or stale remark'. It's something said to state the obvious or appear knowledgeable. Something general enough for everyone to have heard and agree to with no call to action. Let's not let, "Be all you can be!" become a platitude.
You decide what it means to you. In marketing terms, that would be your positioning, your description of how you identify yourself. In 'Get What You Deserve', Jay Levinson, marketing guru, says, "You must choose a position you can live with, a position you can be proud of, a position you can deliver." Tall order! Are you ready?
Be all you can be! Let's not let it become a pressure either, some elusive statement that leaves you perpetually feeling 'not good enough'. What is it, then? It's a call to choose as well as to act.
Choose three things that you would really like to give your best to. They might be your primary relationship, your children, your career, your health, or your spiritual life. Now, write six words to describe your ideal self in those areas. For example, in my life with my husband, I would use these words: trustworthy, respectful, loving, responsive, fun and available. These are my chosen 'positions'. Next step, set some measurable goals for this relationship. For instance: I spend at least one hour a day talking with my husband. I listen carefully to him and ask questions until I fully understand his position, needs, concerns. I find ways to surprise him that let him know how much I love him. I have stated both my position and my marketing plan. Then, follow through. Simple, not always easy, but always rewarding!
When you care enough to make a plan, you're way ahead of the game. When you teach yourself to follow-through, you'll have a winning attitude. Make this a habit and you'll find out how much you are!

Deep Doghouse Communication for Angry Men

Many times when an angry or rageful man comes into the office to see me for the first visit, he is in a deep crisis. Such was the case with Jerry. He was in the �deep doghouse.� He was separated from his wife and she had filed for divorce. A man is in the �deep doghouse� when his wife is very angry and most of the communication is her expressing anger, displeasure and criticism of him.
Although Jerry was deep in the doghouse, he was what I call an eager customer. He was not interested in spending the session explaining to me how he was right and she was wrong. Neither was he particularly interested in exploring his psychological make-up or that of his wife.
Jerry was an engineer with 20 years at a big oil company. Often, therapists complain of engineers because they are slow to get in touch with their feelings. However, engineers are my favorite clients because they put the pressure on me to provide something that works and works quickly. He wanted something to prove to his wife that he was making a dramatic change.
We discussed the importance of abstaining from the 15 behaviors that trigger rageaholics. Jerry said that he would work to control his behavior. He said that he would not be in this predicament if he had been abstaining from these behaviors all along, especially profanity.
The next week he said that things were no worse with his wife and he had not lost his temper. I complimented Jerry on his good work. He had done a great job of not exploding, even when his wife was cursing him and calling him names. Jerry went to great lengths to stop his profanity, name- calling, mocking and threatening, and he even kept a quiet voice.
When I asked him what he wanted to get out of the next session, he said, �I want to learn how to stop arguing with her, if that is possible.� He said that they kept having very long arguments that went on for hours on the phone. I told Jerry that there were three words that would stop any argument: You are right.
These words will stop an argument because in order to have an argument, there has to be a disagreement. Without a disagreement, it is impossible to have an argument. Now these words go against some of our training as men. What we men have learned is how to hang on to being right. I was told that I should never give up when I was right. I was taught to stick to what I believed. And this idea of sticking with what you believe, never stopping, hanging on to being right, may be useful in many areas of your life, but I think you probably have found that it is not useful in your marriage.
The truth of the matter is, no matter what anyone says, you can usually find some smidgen of truth in it. You can acknowledge they are right in some way.
�You are right� does not mean you agree to change anything. I say this over and over again�and it is hard for most ragers to comprehend. Someone telling me that I am selfish, self-centered and egotistical is not a request for a behavioral change. These are universal, human frailties. I make no commitment to change any behavior when I agree with my wife that I am selfish, self-centered and egotistical. It is not the time to argue when you are deep in the doghouse and your wife is ranting and raving at you.
When deep in the doghouse, you should not explain your behavior, not defend your behavior and certainly not counterattack. Deep doghouse communication is about receiving the message and validating her point of view. It is about receiving, not sending. Arguments get started when you try to send back when she is still sending. If you say, �Well, you haven�t always been around here either--How about the two weeks you went to visit your mother?� that is gasoline on the fire.
Many of you may be thinking, �But what if she isn�t right? Am I supposed to lie?� I suggest that you:
1. Say the phrase, �You are right.� 2. Find some truth in what she is saying and agree with it. 3. Get your �but� out of the way. Don�t say, �You are right, but��
You can state your opinion when you get out of the doghouse.

All the better, if you're buying lingerie for your wife, patronize online shops with free shipping - it saves you quite a bit of money there.
Men have no problems with matching their intimate apparel but usually, women feel sexy and most of them would like to match their bras and panties. So, buy lingerie with matching tops and bottoms. The day in the life of happiness, starts somewhere. Its starts with the thought of a smile, with the facial muscles having a meeting in our cheeks, agreeing that your body needs a good smile, like it should everyday. I like to think of our smile as a medical science that helps us get rid of mental stress.
There are so many songs about happiness aren�t there? Cliff Richard for example. He smiles when he sings, bringing happiness I suppose to him and whoever watches him in the first place.
Can you tell a person by how happy they are? No. It�s impossible to tell really. There are great people in this world that for the face of the public can make you smile and look like they haven�t a worry in the world, but deep inside they are troubled. The men/women who can achieve that are so brave it�s almost thought upon as godlike.
Life goes on. If for every sad moment in our lives, like the death of a loved one, we become even sadder, then this planet is in for a bad time. Its people who make our day, that gets the world spinning. If we all stayed in sadness we would get depressed. But for the many who work and are there to serve us, and also who put a brave face one, deserve credit.
But you know as well as I do, there are people who serve us, who don�t smile or look lively do they? This has a bad affect and effect on the company the are with. Make it a nice little addition to your service as a human to smile more.
Do you know how much of an impact you have on a person when you smile? When you next go into a shop, and see someone behind the counter who is not smiling, I guarantee that if you smile at them, genuinely they will smile back, and if you give a little attention to them they will liven up and start talking, bingo, you�ve made someone�s day and happiness has started for them.
I think that people who are always happy are the best to have around you. Someone happy and loves life, are great to be with. Happiness is full, full of surprises. The immune system gets stronger for some reason the more happy you are.
Don�t look at life so bad. Life is what you make it. There�s me going on about being happy. It sounds almost to easy to do doesn�t it? Well it is. First you have to start being happy with yourself. You�re the one who controls your life aren�t you?
Listen to someone laughing, and you will start to laugh to, even if its not funny. If you get one of your friends to start laughing and laugh for a minute, gurantee you�ll feel better, and so will they. Try it, im not lying, listen to someone laugh and you feel better by just hearing them. Its free therapy, and no one charges for it.
I bet that if I started to charge for people laughing I would be able to buy the world 4 times over, id be that rich. Bill Microsoft gates couldn�t spend his money to buy my money, he�d be considered poor in my eyes. Anyway enough of money, cause my eyes started to get bigger and I had thoughts of me buying expensive stuff like boats and cars.

The handicap of having a stammer

There are many types of disablity. I am somebody who believes that to have a stammer is a form of disabilty.
I think most people would probably say no, however I disagree. People who stammer have to struggle their way through life at times. I am somebody who had a stammer for eighteen years. I am going to now explain one of the situations that I found difficult and how my mind or what I would call my demons would be saying to me.
This is when trying to meet and approach people of the opposite sex. Lets say I am in a bar and I see a woman/girl who catches my eye. I think to myself, who don't you go and talk to her and make a move etc? My demons are always talking to me, and are basically saying "She won't want to know you.
You have a stammer and when you start talking she will hear it. Do you really think she will want to date somebody who has a stammer? Even if she is interested, you then have to possibly meet her friends and family.
How will they find you and treat you, when they realise you have a stammer?" These demons would make me think twice and more often than not I would not even bother going over and talking to the person. I would therefore let the demons win.
This is one example of thousands where the stammer handicaps your ability to live a normal life. This is why I believe stammering is a disability.
Having a stammer affects your confidence in and gaining employment. People who stammer can find it hard attending an interview, having to speak under pressure to people they do not know.
Social occasions such as weddings or a party can fill people who stutter with dread. Not only finding conversation difficult but also ordering food and drinks.

In a Row or Becoming a Wall?

There is a phenomenon that never ceases to amaze me. I have observed it many times with countless individuals, businesses, teachers, churches, non profits and may occur in any setting where individuals or groups have a vision. A vision for something grand and glorious. A vision that will have an amazing impact in their lives and the lives of others. Then what happens? "I am getting my ducks in a row" comes the response. Ah, yes. The planning to plan some more and get it all perfect so that the vision will for sure reach its magnificent best. That sounds like a respectable plan. And somehow it is not uncommon that becoming enamored with creating the plan becomes more powerful than putting the plan into play. The getting the ducks in a row runs the risk of building a wall with the ducks. Instead, grow towards getting the ducks to fly in a V formation so that they get where they are going exponentially faster, stronger and more effectively. Canadian Geese are the most famous for flying in a V formation. Scientist S. Sample notes, "the lead bird is creating a turbulance wave that actual assists the birds behind it. The further back you are in the formation, the less energy you need in the flight. Lead birds do rotate to keep exhaustion from happening." The Geese naturally make this formation. They do not push to make it happen, they share in the leading of the group, and they get where they are going with enough energy to complete the essence of their mission. Another bird group that forms a V when in flight are Swans. A very famous bird, the Swan is what the Ugly Duckling transformed into as he grew up. Swans are among the largest birds commonly seen and the 7 species occur on most continents (not in Africa or Antarctica.) The Swan also can take on an almost human characteristic of staying committed to a vision. They mate for life and carry their little ones on their back. It seems fitting that they would cooperatively fly in the V formation. Somehow I doubt they are concerned with getting in a row and making walls between them and their Swan families. Which leads us back to where we started. Are you taking your row of ducks and creating walls or are you taking your row of ducks and making a V formation? Are you paying attention to when you get tired, so you step back into the stream of another lead or do you push yourself to the point of exhaustion and put your vision back on the shelf because it "did not work"? If there is no immediate answer, ask yourself the questions above and let them float around (in a V formation, naturally) through your subconscious mind. When you least expect it, the idea will gracefully land and wait for you to take the position, for a while, of the lead duck.
